Providing schools and families with advice, training and resources to support speech, language and communication difficulties.
Welcome to SpeakWrite, supporting the inclusion of children with speech, language, and communication needs. Established in 2017, we draw on over 20 years of experience in both mainstream and specialist (SEN) education, to ensure inclusion using universal and targeted support across Staffordshire and East Cheshire.
Our specialist support services
At SpeakWrite, we offer a comprehensive range of tailored services designed to support the unique speech, language, and communication needs of children age 3 to 16 years within your setting. Our approach is rooted in multi-sensory learning, and we work closely with staff, parents and external agencies to ensure children build the confidence and skills needed to thrive and learn.
School consultations
We partner with schools to develop bespoke evidence-based intervention strategies, conduct staff skills audits and provide ongoing support to educators to develop inclusive learning practice amongst all staff. Our services include guidance on Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) school-based assessments, universal and targeted provision and staff training.
Family guidance
We aim to provide parents with practical tools and strategies to support their child's communication development at home. We offer personalised advice and resources tailored to your child's needs, helping families to nurture essential speech and language skills.
Bespoke resources
We are happy to share resources to support interventions and create bespoke visuals and resources for individual needs. Just let us know what it is you need. In order to allow us to keep the majority of our resources free, all resources are provided via email for you to print and assemble at home or school.
Professional training
With a wide range of different learning needs in every classroom, it's essential all staff feel confident and skilled to be able to offer an inclusive and accessible learning journey to suit every child. We can offer a range or training and workshops to support your school becoming a 'Communication Friendly' environment and we are always happy to signpost and refer you to other organisations and training as appropriate.
Assessment & intervention
Our non-diagnostic assessments can help establish any need for further referral to clinical Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) or other external agencies. Non-diagnostic assessments can also assist in identifying specific communication needs that can be supported with universal and targeted intervention plans for those not eligible for NHS SALT or whilst awaiting referral.
Host a Communication Cafe
We love nothing better than helping to spread the word on how we can all adapt our communication to be more inclusive at school, home and in the wider community. Why not host a 'Communication Cafe' to show off how well your school supports speech, language and communication. We can bring along resources to promote greater inclusion, talk to visitors and generally raise awareness of SLC difficulties and how they can impact learning and life.
"Working with a such a wide range of communication needs across our school, it had always been a challenge to step back and think about a long term strategic plan. It was too easy to be solely focussed on meeting the pressing needs of individual children in our classrooms. Debbie provided the knowledge and expertise to help us not only improve what we do today but what we will be doing in 3 years time. More importantly she has lit a fire in a number of staff who are now driving our school forward."
